Dead boy may have been attacked by family dog

A man is being questioned by police but no official cause of death has been confirmed after the child was found dead at home.

A 10-year-old boy found dead with cuts to his head may have been attacked by the family dog.

Police are investigating the child's death after he was found at a home in the Queens Avenue area of Newtownabbey, County Antrim.

It is understood a dog, reportedly a German shepherd, was in the house at the time.

A man is being questioned by police but no official cause of death has been confirmed.

Newtownabbey SDLP councillor Noreen McClelland, who was at the scene, said distraught neighbours had watched as the child was taken out of the house by paramedics on a stretcher.

"They said there was a lot of blood.

"It is just horrible, a terrible tragedy.

"Everyone is really upset."
