A driver has been arrested after 13 people - some requiring medical treatment - were found inside an overseas lorry near Rugby.

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were called to Mangrove Service Station on the A45 London Road at about 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

They discovered a group of men and boys, eight of whom are aged between 15 and 39 years old, inside the vehicle, which was insulated and from Romania.

Three were taken to hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to discover 13 patients who had been travelling on the back of a lorry.

"All of the patients were male, with three of them receiving treatment at the scene... before they were transferred to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire on land ambulances."
