In pictures: Rescue crews wade through flooding in Ireland as River Slaney bursts its banks

County Wexford in Ireland has been hit hard by Storm Chandra, with the River Slaney bursting its banks early this morning.

It resulted in multiple road closures in Enniscorthy, according to Wexford County Council.

Meanwhile, search and rescue teams have been walking with a boat through a flooded street.

Devon river reaches highest level on record

The heavy rainfall caused by Storm Chandra has seen the River Otter reach its highest level on record.

The Environment Agency says the river, at Fenny Bridges in east Devon, was recorded at 2.83 metres high at 5.45am this morning.

The previous record was set in December 2000 when levels reached 2.81 metres.

A flood warning is still in place for the River Otter from Upottery to Cadhay Bridge.

Just joining us? Here's the state of play

It's been a fast-moving day of updates so far as Storm Chandra batters the UK with strong winds and heavy rain causing rivers to burst their banks.

If you're just joining our coverage, here's a look at the weather warnings that are still in place, how long they last and where flooding is expected.

Weather warnings

Four weather warnings remain in place in the UK, including an amber warning for wind.

It comes after a yellow wind warning for the South West of England and West Wales expired at 4pm.

Here's a breakdown of where the remaining warnings are and how long they last:

  • Northern and eastern parts of Northern Ireland - amber warning for wind in place until 9pm tonight;
  • Northern Ireland - yellow warning for rain and wind in place until 11.59pm tonight;
  • South West Scotland - yellow warning for wind in place until 11.59pm tonight;
  • North East to South West Scotland - yellow warning for rain and snow in place until 11.59pm tonight.

Severe flood warning remains

There's still a severe flood warning in place for locations near the Upper Dorset Frome in Dorchester, with low-lying roads set to be the most affected.

A severe flood warning means that flooding could cause danger to life and significant disruption to communities.

There are still more than 80 flood warnings in force and more than 230 flood alerts.

These numbers are likely to adjust as we head into the evening, but you can see the full list of warnings and alerts here.

While the yellow weather warning may have expired in the South West of England, this latest drone footage reaching us from Devon shows the drastic scale of flooding Storm Chandra has caused...

Storm Chandra whips up waves along the coast

This latest video shows Storm Chandra whipping up waves as they crash into the seafront in Cornwall.

A reminder, the South West is under a yellow weather warning for wind lasting until 4pm this afternoon.

But its not just Cornwall bearing the brunt of Storm Chandra's force.

This picture shows ferocious waves crashing over Blyth Pier lighthouse in Northumberland.

Environment Agency warns 'we're not through all of it yet' as further impacts expected

The Environment Agency says the last 24 hours have been "challenging" as Storm Chandra hits the UK.

Kevin Ward tells presenter Jayne Secker there's been around "50-70mm of rain in parts of the South West".

"Most of the flood warnings will gradually begin to come off this afternoon as the situations improve, the rain has passed and we've passed the main high tide of the day," he says.

"So in many places now, we should see an improving situation."

But that won't be the case everywhere, as Ward explains.

"Some of our larger, slower reacting rivers may still have some impacts to come," he says.

"We're not through all of it yet."

Blizzard-like conditions in County Durham

While wind and rain have caused chaos across most of the UK, snow has led to delays and disruptions elsewhere.

Trucks were out and about in the county (see 13.20), clearing the snow for drivers amid a snow warning by the Met Office earlier today. That warning has since ended.

Watch: Where will Storm Chandra hit next?

While we've been bringing you pictures and videos showing Storm Chandra battering the UK, further warnings are in place until Thursday.

Our meteorologist Jo Robinson says there will be "more weather systems moving in later in the week as well".

She says the winds may ease down over the coming hours in Northern Ireland, but they're likely to pick up again.

"Tomorrow, there will be a bit of a lull, we'll see some showers around, but it is generally drier and less windy," she adds.

"But there's more on the way on Thursday, and there's a warning already for the South West for Thursday for more rain there."

Queen's University Belfast has closed its campus today amid an amber warning issued by the Met Office.

A spokesperson says it made the decision after a "careful assessment".

"This decision was guided by the need to prioritise the safety and well-being of our staff and students," the spokesperson added.

The amber wind warning is in place until 9pm.

Phone footage shows streets in Dublin flooded as Storm Chandra brings strong wind and rain across Ireland and the UK.
