GDP: Surprise as UK economy shrinks by 0.3%

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said poor weather contributed to the figure, with services, construction and manufacturing all being hit.

The UK economy suffered a surprise decline in output in October. Economists had expected a flat performance, following September's 0.2% growth. However, the contraction of 0.3% surprised many.
